Moore, OK - Mike Iaconelli entered last week’s Elite Series stop on Lake St. Clair in a very precarious position.  After qualifying for 16 consecutive Bassmaster Classics (dating back to 2002), the New Jersey pro found himself in 55th place in the Toyota Angler Of the Year point standings with just one regular season tournament left on the schedule.

With only the Top 50 anglers in the TAOY points moving on to fish the TAOY Championship in mid-September on Mille Lacs Lake in Minnesota, Ike needed to have a strong showing on Lake St. Clair just to crack the Top 50 and keep the hope alive to make 17 straight Classics.

He finished in 31st place on Lake St. Clair and moved up to 46th place in the TAOY standings – high enough to qualify for the TAOY Championship.   Still, Iaconelli has an uphill climb.  With 542 TAOY points, he’s still roughly 29 points outside of a Classic qualifying spot.

In today’s Tales From the Cast, Ike talks about what it would mean to keep the streak alive and how important it is to make the Classic every season:
