Paducah,
KY. – Prior to the Tennessee Triumph, Mark Menendez called Kentucky Lake, the 5th stop on this season’s Elite Series trail, a “nemesis.”
That’s an odd statement coming from a successful professional angler who calls nearby Paducah home, but since the dawn of the Elite Series Kentucky Lake has been a tough nut for Menendez to crack. Despite past success there in Invitational-level competition, he missed the money when the Elites visited there in 2006 and 2008, by one and three places, respectively, just enough to make it hurt.
He didn’t finish substantially better when the Elites went there in early June of 2009, earning a 44th place finish, but the feeling as he departed was worlds apart, separated by light years on the emotional spectrum. Not only did he earn a coveted check, always a good thing in this economy, but he managed to hold onto his 8th place position in the Angler of the Year
standings.
