Moore, OK – There was little doubt that when Jacob Wheeler qualified for the 2017 Bassmaster Elite Series through the 2016 Bassmaster Opens he would make an immediate impact.  After all, Wheeler won the first Elite Series tournament that he ever fished back in 2014 when he qualified for BASSFest on Lake Chickamauga.

It took the young pro (who recently relocated from Indiana to Tennessee) exactly four days of Elite Series competition this past season to capture another blue trophy.  Targeting smallmouth, Wheeler won the 2017 season opener on Cherokee Lake with a total of 69 pounds, 13 ounces.

He would remain in the mix for the Toyota Angler Of the Year title throughout the season, rattling off four additional Top 10 finishes including a 10th place on Toledo Bend, 3rd Place on Sam Rayburn, 4th Place on Lake Champlain, and 4th Place in the Toyota Angler Of the Year Championship on Mille Lacs.

In the end, Wheeler finished in 3rd place overall in the TAOY point standings, 22 points behind winner Brandon Palaniuk and just three points behind 2nd place finisher Jason Christie.

The BASS ZONE was on-location throughout the year and captured Wheeler’s incredible season – here are some of the highlights:
