Branson, MO - Since the beginning of the 2014 Elite Series season, Mark Davis hasn’t been able to wander far from the weigh-in stage without being flagged down for an interview.   After starting the year with back-to-back 3rd place finishes, the Arkansas legend is looking to better his performance this week on Table Rock Lake.

Davis backed up his 18-8 effort on Thursday with another limit weighing 15-3 on Friday to enter the weekend with the tournament lead and a total weight of 33-11.

While Davis is a seasoned veteran with ample success on Table Rock, his closest competitor is just happy to finally say that he has cashed a check in The Ozarks.  Chris Lane, who has a history of struggling on Table Rock Lake and Bull Shoals, kept pace with Davis on Friday with a 14-12 limit to finish 10-ounces behind Davis in 2nd place with 33-1.

Day one leader, Aaron Martens, was unable to connect with a kicker fish like he did on Thursday.  He finished the day in 3rd place with a 14-5 limit and total weight of 33-0.

Ozark expert Mike McClelland landed on 4th place on Friday with a total weight of 32-4, and Edwin Evers rounded out the Top 5 with 30-13.

Yusuke Miyazaki snuck inside the Top 50 cut on Friday, finishing the day in 50th place by a single ounce with a total weight of 24-11.

As expected, a few pounds made a world of difference on Table Rock.  50th place and 90th place were separated by just 3 pounds, 8 ounces.  Entering the weekend, 12th place and 50th place are separated by just 4 pounds, 5 ounces.

Tournament: Bassmaster Elite Series (Stop #3)
Location: Table Rock Lake – Branson, Missouri
Day Two Leader: Mark Davis (33-11)
50th Place: Yusuke Miyazaki (24-11)
Total weight separating 1st from 12th: 4-11

1st Place: Mark Davis (18-8, 15-3: 33-11)
Davis on the law of averages:
“I’m just catching a lot of fish.  You can start doubting yourself at times, but the law of averages will usually carry you.  If you get enough bites on a lake like this, in a day’s time, you are going to come up with a better grade of fish.  Yesterday, I caught a 7-pounder and that was the difference.  I wasn’t disappointed with my catch today because 15-pounds is solid, even though you always want more.

“I’ve got something going where I’m getting 60, 70, 80 bites a day.  With that many bites, you should catch a few decent fish.  I caught a 4-pounder today and that was the only good bite that I had.  The other fish were just nice quality fish.

Davis on catching all three species of bass:
“I had one spotted bass, but four of the five fish that I weighed-in were largemouth.  I did catch some smallmouth that just weren’t quite big enough to make the final team.   With the technique I’m using, you’ll catch a smallmouth on one cast, a spotted bass on the next cast, and a largemouth on the next cast.”

Davis on how the conditions on Saturday could affect his bite:
“The last practice day, I caught several big females.  They weren’t pulling up everywhere, but that told me that if you were in the right area some of those bigger females were mixing in with the buck bass.  Tonight is going to hurt everyone in the tournament because it’s going to get cold and the wind will probably not blow tomorrow.  It’s going to be harder.  You just have to know that.   The first day after the front when the wind is blowing, the fish usually bite good.  I think that it’ll be a grind tomorrow, though.”

Davis on his primary pattern:
“I’m really not running that many spots.  I’m fishing big areas and I’m just putting the trolling motor down and fishing.  I only made three or four moves today.”

2nd Place: Chris Lane (18-5, 14-12: 33-1)
Lane on backing up his 18-5 limit on Thursday with another 14-12 on Friday:
“The one thing that I’ve learned about these Ozark lakes is that there are so many fish.  I just put in a red Luck-E-Strike crankbait that I’ve been catching them on, and I just went down the bank and just kept going and going.  You’ll hit a spot where you might catch one or two and then you just keep going.  I’m not running a lot or burning a whole lot of gas.  I’m just fishing, and that’s a big key.  I was just ecstatic to catch over 14-pounds today.  I only caught eight or nine keepers today, so I’m not going through a whole lot of fish like the other guys.”

Lane on settling down early in the day on Friday:
“I caught two good ones pretty early and then it was a grind after that.  Catching those early fish was really important to me because I told myself, ‘OK, the fish are still going to bite even though it’s cold.’  From what I’ve seen, the cold weather seemed to fire up the fish.  I just put my head down and went at it because I knew that I needed to put five (keepers) in the boat.”

Lane on not over thinking his general pattern:
“I’m just grinding it out.  I was thinking of running up the James River tomorrow, but I think that I’ll just end up grinding it out in the same area again.  I’m not running far and it’s really cold in the morning.  It seems like there are plenty of fish left in there.”

3rd Place: Aaron Martens (18-11,14-5: 33-0)
Martens on his overall day on Table Rock:
“I caught most of my fish this morning pretty early.  I fished one spot I fished yesterday, but 95% of the stuff I fished today was brand new water.  A lot of the stuff I fished today I didn't even catch any fish, but I did find some pretty good spots.  Most of the stuff I am fishing is not producing lots of fish - it is just one here and one there."

Martens on the consistency of his bite:
“Yesterday, I had one little stretch that I went down and caught five keepers pretty quickly, but otherwise it has been tough.  I may go down one stretch of bank and it might take me a half an hour to get a bite, so it takes a while.  I am not able to just sit in one spot and fish, I am having to move a lot to catch my fish.  I don't know about the other guys, but that is how I’m doing it."

Martens on sharing water:
“I'm sure at times I am fishing some of the same stuff as other guys but I really haven't seen many other people.  The lake is just so big, and has so much good water you really don't have to worry about that this week.  I ran a lot of places and was rarely even in the same cove with anyone else, which is a rarity.  It is such a big lake that sometimes if I see a boat I just keep going, it's been nice."

Martens on the difference between Thursday and Friday:
“I didn't have an 8-pounder and that was the difference.  I never got a big one today. All my fish were within 3- or 4-ounces of each other. They were all nice chunks, but no big ones.  I didn't even have a keeper largemouth; I weighed in three spotted bass and two smallies."
