100 SOLDIERS STORMING LAKE FORK -- TASF ON LAKE FORK

Alba, Tx – Lake Fork has been host to many heroes over the years – dads, grandpas, uncles, and even the professional anglers from the PAA.  On September 27th, 2008 though, Lake Fork will be host to 100 of America’s bravest heroes – our American Soldiers!

Event coordinator Karl Kilgore of the Lindale Bass club together with the non profit organization, “Take A Soldier Fishing”, have spearheaded a Lake Fork tournament dedicated to the soldiers who have served in our latest conflicts.  This event pairs up a soldier with a volunteer boater for a day of fun, friendly competition on the world renowned Lake Fork.  The team tournament will observe the lake’s slot limit and include categories for catfish and crappie as well.

The idea came to them about six months ago during a Lindale Bass Club meeting as they were searching for new ways to give back.  “I’ve always wanted to do something for our soldiers” stated Kilgore.  They started researching other tournaments and making phone calls.  Karl recalled, “Just about everybody jumped on board immediately.”  Karl contacted Mike & Dena Nashif with the “Take A Soldier Fishing” organization and they set off together to make this an event the soldiers would truly enjoy.

There is no entry fee for the soldiers and their rooms are paid for.  There are soldiers coming from all over the state and the US and the volunteer list spans many states as well.  “You wouldn’t believe how grateful the soldiers are for the opportunity to do this” Karl exclaimed excitedly when describing the response to the event, “They are looking forward to it!”  At this point he believes they have a full field of soldiers but are still in need of more volunteer boaters – about 25 more boats are needed.

The sponsorship list continues to grow and the volunteer list includes guides, locals, Skeeter Pros, and many others who want to show their appreciation for the sacrifices these soldiers have made to preserve our freedoms.

The event kicks off on Friday, September 26th at 7:00PM for “Dinner with the soldiers & boaters” where final pairings are made and a time to get to know each other.  Saturday morning will have the invocation followed by the National Anthem prior to take off at safe light.  The host marina for the event is Lake Fork Marina and weigh-in will begin at 3:00PM for the first flight of boats.
