SWINDLE IN THE SAND
A Quick Summer Break Q & A

Story by Alan McGuckin - Photo by Mark Jeffreys

When asked about whom they would most like to hang out with during a summer break at the beach, top pro anglers often picked Gerald Swindle as a favorite. So we wondered, how then, has the well-liked pro from Warrior, Alabama been spending his time during the mid-summer break in the 2008 Bassmaster Elite Series schedule?

Q: Gerald, you’ve spent a lot of time with your toes in the sand lately down at Gulf Shores, Alabama. Tell us about it.

Yep, we headed to Gulf Shores, Alabama for our third annual summer vacation there. My wife and I would start the morning off at about 8:30 am with coffee and cinnamon rolls. Then, at about 10:30 am, with the help of some Vault energy drinks I mustered up the strength to make it to the beach. That’s where I would lay sipping an adult beverage. Some say I looked like a beached fish. I played Frisbee, football and spent many hours each day aggravating my wife and daughter. The evenings centered on family cookouts and good times. In the end, I spent 14 days at the beach without doing much of anything. Mission accomplished.

Q: What’s your favorite thing to eat from the backyard grill?

Bar-B-Qued pork chops.

Q: If you could only have one lure to cast at bass across the USA in July and August what would it be?

I’d use a ¼ oz. Picasso Gerald Swindle Shakedown jig head with a Zoom green pumpkin finesse worm on 10-pound fluorocarbon line.

Q: You love music, what song do you find yourself listening to most right now?

Kid Rock’s “All Summer Long”.

Q: If you were to rent a summer beach house for one week, and you could only invite three other Elite Series pros, who would they be and why?

I’d invite Scott Rook because he’s hands-down the best cook on tour. I’d have to invite Casey Ashley for the singing entertainment. And then, I’d invite Boyd Duckett so I could take him to the go-kart track and show him that he might be able to fly a plane, but I’m the king of the track..
