ELTON LUCE AND THE TROOPS
Angler Will Donate $1 Per Pound to Support Injured Service Members

Story by Doug Stone

Washington, D.C.  –  The Armed Forces Foundation (AFF) announced this week that professional angler, Elton Luce, Jr., will dedicate his 2008 tournament season to raising funds and awareness to assist the needs of injured Service Members and their families. Elton, a thirteen-year veteran of the B.A.S.S. Tournament Circuit, will help generate funds and awareness through the Armed Forces Foundation, a national nonprofit operating under the Department of Defense’s America Supports You program.

Elton has pledged to donate $1.00 for every pound that he weighs in while competing in B.A.S.S. tournaments. Elton’s sponsors are Bass Cat Boats, Mercury Marine, Motorguide, Pure Fishing, Abu Garcia and Fenwick Rods, Berkley, and Lowrance Electronics. Three of his sponsors (Bass Cat Boats, Mercury Marine and Pure Fishing) have generously pledged to match his donations for this great cause.

“My son served in Iraq and I feel a strong connection to these troops and their families,” said Elton. “I feel at peace knowing there is an organization that takes care of our troops and their families, who are facing a tremendous amount of pain and stress.”

Elton challenges each Elite Series Touring Pro to pledge their support for our troops. Elton recently created the program “Anglers Do Care” in conjunction with the Armed Forces Foundation. The program hopes to raise enough funds to take care of multiple families that are in desperate need of financial assistance.

“We are extremely proud to be able to work with Elton to raise money and awareness for the foundation and its mission,” said Armed Forces Foundation President, Patricia Driscoll. “It is as a result of the contributions of individuals like Elton, that we are able to show full support for our nation’s Armed Forces community.”

Elton chose to support the Armed Forces Foundation because of their ability to provide rapid financial assistance to all branches of the military, including veterans and military families. Anglers interested in contributing to the “Anglers Do Care” program, can make donations at www.armedforcesfoundation.org. Once the Elite Series Tour has concluded for the season, the AFF’s website will highlight the grand total donated on behalf of the sport of angling.
