Norman,
OK - The Okie BFL Super Tournament played out on September 6th and 7th and held 102 boaters and 102 co-anglers. Jason brought in a total of 16-09 on day 1 putting him in 3rd going into the final day. Day 2 held the same story with Christie bringing in a clone bag much like Day 1 weighing 16-13. He accumulated a total weight of 33-06 besting 2nd place by over five pounds.
The FLW Tour pro commented on why the mid-lake area on Grand Lake is so productive for him. “In any lake in Oklahoma where the river meets the lake, you’re going to find transition areas where the flats meet the creek channels, and those areas will typically hold fish this time of year. I found fish that were on the move, they had five pound heads, and only weighed about 3 ½ pounds due to the fish starting to migrate to the schools of bait. I spent two days out there the day before the tournament looking around.”
The Park Hill native retired from coaching last year to fish tournaments full time. “Two major factors have played a role for me over the past year in my fishing. The first is that time on the water is crucial in figuring out the seasonal patterns of the bass and why they do the things they do. The second is having the confidence knowing that I feel like if I get the right bites that I can win. I figured out that I’m not fishing against the locals, I’m fishing against the fish,” commented Christie.
