ON LOCATION AT BASS-A-THON

News and Notes...........

Anaheim, Calif. – BASS ZONE .com Senior Writer Dan O’Sullivan made the trip to Angler’s Marine in Anaheim, Calif. to check out the happenings at the 21st Annual Bass-a-Thon. Bass-a-Thon is one of the most anticipated events of the winter, as Rick Grover, the owner of Angler’s Marine brings in some of the biggest names in the sport for the event.

Featured speakers at this years event were 2007 Toyota Tundra Bassmaster Angler of the Year Skeet Reese, 2007 Bassmaster Classic Champion Boyd Duckett, Two-time winner of the Bassmaster Memorial, Peter Thliveros, 2006 FLW Tour Rookie of the Year Gabe Bolivar, and Bassmaster Elite Series pro’s Ish Monroe and Jared Lintner. Many of the biggest names in professional fishing and the fishing industry were also in attendance.

Bass-a-Thon is also a tackle junkie’s haven, as Grover and his crew move many of the boats out of the showroom and turn the space into a maze of tables with manufacturers displaying their wares. Everything an angler could need was on display for the two-day event.

Bass-a-Thon has become known as the place to see the newest in the swimbait category, and 2007 was no exception as some of the genre’s brightest stars were on display. Ken Huddleston debuted his new six-inch trout swimbait at Bass-a-Thon, and despite limiting the offering to two per person, the entire 300 piece opening run was sold in less than a half an hour on the first morning.

Bruce Porter from Basstrix pulled together several large boxes of the famous Basstrix Paddletail tubes, and like Huddleston, limited customers to three packs of the hard to get baits. Even with the limitations, the Basstrix Paddletails barely lasted the first hour of each morning.

The BASS Zone was on location in what has become the most anticipated winter bass fishing event in California, we spoke to all of the top pro’s and many of the fishing industry’s most notable personalities. Stay tuned for more from BASS ZONE .com’s exclusive, on location coverage of the 21st annual Angler’s Marine Bass-a-Thon.

SKEET REESE AND A NEW PROJECT
BZ Interview by Dan O'Sullivan

The BASS ZONE caught up with 2007 Toyota Tundra Bassmaster Angler of the Year Skeet Reese of Auburn, Calif. following his seminar on the opening day of the Angler’s Marine Bass-a-Thon.

Reese shared his recollections of his memorable season; spoke about his off season preparations, his mindset going into 2008, and more. He also opened up about rigging his Mercury Pro XS 250 powered Champion 210 Elite with Lowrance Electronics for the needs of an Elite Series pro.

Reese, and Lucky Craft are stepping up their promotion of the Angler of the Year title, as you can see from the image of a Skeet Reese decal that Lucky Craft made for Bass-a-Thon. He shared a little about his Lucky Craft boat and truck wrap for next season, and a new project that he and Lucky Craft are in development on. It’s hard to think it necessary, but sometimes even the newly crowned Bassmaster Angler of the Year could use a little Redemption.
