TORN SOFT PLASTICS.....MEND IT

New Product Repairs Torn Soft Plastic Baits

 Story By Dan O'Sullivan

Greenbrae, CA – Most anglers spend hundreds of dollars every year on soft plastic baits, and a certain amount of obsolescence is expected. For most, a bag of torn up plastic baits is a small price to pay when one considers catching the bass of a lifetime, or putting big weight in the livewell, and big dollars in their wallet.

However, as more anglers invest more and more in big dollar lures such as swimbaits, having fish tear bait becomes an expensive proposition. When you consider that many of the most popular swimbaits cost in excess of $25, fixing them becomes imperative.

Up until now the only options for repairing damaged baits has been to attempt melting them together with a wormizer, hot knife or an open flame, the other option is some sort of instant glue, but those repairs end up leaving a hard section on the bait, which eventually turns white and discolored. Also, if you get some on your hands you could be permanently bonded to a lure.

“Mend It!” appears to be a product that can change all of that. Tom Leogrande, a California angler and the editor of BASS WEST USA Magazine, and his business partner have come up with a new product that fixes soft plastic lures without the hard spots and discoloring.

“Mend It! is not glue, but a product that chemically bonds the torn edges of soft plastic leaving them soft,” Leogrande told The BASS ZONE. “It is a liquid that will not stick your hands together, but repairs all kinds of soft plastics.”

Leogrande said that he has used it to mend or customize everything from Yamamoto Senkos to $40 Huddleston swimbaits. “I cut three different color Senkos and combined them all into three color baits,” Leogrande exclaimed excitedly. “I also picked up a brand new Huddleston and took a big bite out of the side of the bait; Mend It! fixed them all without hard spots or discoloring.”

Leogrande reports that for a bait like a Senko, it only takes one drop, and approximately a minute to be ready to fish, and a large bait like a Huddleston only requires a few drops and a couple of minutes to be as good as new.

A two ounce bottle of Mend It! will retail for around $10, and will repair numbers of baits.
