ON LOCATION AT BASS-A-THON

Interview with Lure Designers and Manufacturers Bruce Porter from Basstrix and Ken Huddleston

 Interview by Dan O'Sullivan

Anaheim, Calif. –  BASS ZONE.com Senior Writer Dan O’Sullivan made the trip to Anglers Marine in Anaheim, Calif. to check out the happenings at the 21st Annual Bass-a-Thon. Bass-a-Thon is one of the most anticipated events of the winter, as Rick Grover, the owner of Anglers Marine brings in some of the biggest names in the sport for the event

It’s not often that someone can be in a position to watch history being made the way that The BASS ZONE did as Steve Kennedy set the new BASS four-day record at Clear Lake in March of 2007. But, being able to interview he designers of the two main lures that he used to set the record at the same time is another honor altogether.

Being on location at Bass-a-Thon gave BASS ZONE .com the opportunity to corral two lure makers whose creations made quite possibly the biggest mark on the fishing industry in 2007. Not only did Kennedy win The Golden State Shootout with Porter and Huddleston’s individual products, but he touched off a buying frenzy that has yet to die down.

Porter’s Basstrix Paddletail Tube is still the most sought after swimbait across the country eight months after Kennedy’s performance, with no end in sight as orders keep coming. Huddleston, who has faced his own share of production challenges also, touched off a buying frenzy at Bass-a-Thon as he released 350 of his new six-inch juvenile trout Huddleston swimbaits. Both companies limited customer purchasing, yet still sold out of product within minutes of opening both mornings of the show.

Click below to hear Porter and Huddleston discuss Kennedy’s record, the thoughts behind their record setting creations; their take on the copying of their creations and who the real critics of their work is in this exclusive BASS ZONE .com on location interview at the 2007 Anglers Marine Bass-a-Thon.
