CHRIS HAMILTON BENEFIT TOURNAMENT UPDATE

Event Set for August 18th at Kentucky Lake

Story by Dan O'Sullivan

Collierville, Tenn. – The Fishing industry is a billion dollar business, but people like Crispin Powley of Strike King Lures and his friends are proving that it is an industry with a huge heart.

Powley’s friend Chris Hamilton, an outdoorsman and tradesman from Tennessee was vacationing in Panama City Fla. over the 4th of July holiday when he was injured in a swimming accident that resulted in Hamilton being paralyzed.

Powley and a group of friends went to work and formed a benefit tournament for Hamilton scheduled for Kentucky Lake at Paris Landing State Park in Buchanan, Tenn. On Saturday August 18, 2007. “We just wanted to do what we could to help Chris with his medical bills as well as expenses going forward,” Powley said. “I am absolutely amazed at the amount of support we are getting from the industry.”

Powley said the tournament planning is going very well. “We are expecting to have around 100 boats at the event,” Powley said. “The payout will be a guaranteed $2,000 for first place and an 80% payout for the first 10 places.”

He reported that the main fundraiser portion of the event will be a live auction fundraiser and barbeque at Lakewood Elementary School in Buchanan at 2:30 PM. “The support from the whole industry has been amazing,” Powley said. “So many companies and individuals have been so generous with their time and resources.”

The list of auction items at www.helpchrishamilton.com has grown to well over a hundred items and growing. Items include guide trips and autographed memorabilia from FLW and Elite Series pros, hunting equipment, framed artwork, fishing tackle, and the list goes on.

FLW Outdoors will be running the weigh-in with Elite Series and Strike King pro Mark Menendez providing the emcee services for the event. Many of the world’s best-known professional anglers are expected to be in attendance.
